Hair Thinning

Today, we’re talking about hair.

Many of my patients come in and say, “I’ve got hair loss,” or “My hair is thinning.” Yes age, hormones and genetics can play a part in hair loss and lack of hair growth. However, today we’re talking about key nutrients and key essential oils that are going to reduce that hair loss and get you growing a head of hair you’re going to love.

Well, let’s talk about essential oils first. Lavender and Rosemary. Rosemary, it smells great, and massaging it into the scalp is wonderful. Adding Lavender is a soothing component and together they work magic. Now, what I like is to put these two together with Cedarwood, which has been shown to reduce hair loss along with Peppermint to increase circulation. Add Cypress with the Peppermint because Cypress also increases circulation.

So we need that circulation to get that hair growing. Choose between any of these essential oils and find a combo you like. You can massage it into your scalp, maybe 15 or 20 minutes before you shampoo, or at bedtime.

Okay, nutrients for a good head of hair. Think ABCs. Those are the vitamins we’re going to talk about, and those can be found in any good multivitamin. We’ve got one here designed for women and the vitamins come from organic fruits and vegetables, which is what you want. If you were having a perfect diet of fresh fruits and vegetables, which none of us does, you wouldn’t need a multi vitamin. But this multi also contains the vitamin A, important for the growth of hair and of all tissues. Vitamin B complex: you’ve heard of Biotin, that’s a B vitamin, but all the B’s work together to make red blood cells. More about that coming up. And vitamin C, anti-aging, antioxidant keeps us healthy and we need vitamin C to absorb iron.

So let’s look at some of our other nutrients. We need iron. Here are a couple of forms made just from fruits and vegetables. Iron needs vitamin C to be absorbed well, and it is needed to carry the oxygen to the hair. Here’s the vitamin C, if you don’t have enough you can have hair and skin issues.

We all need Vitamin D. Vitamin D can be manufactured under the skin from the sunshine, but what if you live in an area where you don’t get enough sunshine? Then you want an absorbable D3 because we want our blood levels between 60 and 90, that’s the sweet spot to stay healthy, to stay happy and to have great hair.

And let’s not forget about zinc. If you have a multivitamin, it’s going to have a small amount of zinc, but we need a little more to boost our immunity and to get that great head of hair. And lastly, VItamin E. Vitamin E has been shown to reduce alopecia and hair loss by 35%. That’s big!

So here we’ve got essential oils and nutrients that are going to help you have that gorgeous head of hair and feel your beautiful self so you can get out there and do the things you want to do.
